Fall brings crisp mornings, early sunsets and roads covered in wet leaves. For a light, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe like the Subaru BRZ, the new season is a great time to build a few smart habits so every drive stays fun and confident.
The 2027 BRZ comes in three trims: BRZ, Sport-tech and tS. Each one uses a 2.4 L 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine that makes 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Here is how to get the most out of that engine, the chassis and the cabin as the temperatures start to drop.
Swap to Cold-Weather Tires Before the First Frost
Every 2027 BRZ leaves the factory on summer tires. The BRZ trim rides on 17-inch wheels with 215/45 R17 Michelin Primacy 4 ST tires. The Sport-tech and tS step up to 18-inch wheels with 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.
Summer tires use a rubber compound made for warm pavement. As the air cools, that rubber firms up and loses grip. Booking your seasonal tire change early in the fall helps you avoid the rush and keeps the BRZ planted on cold, damp roads. Knowing your tire size ahead of time also makes it easy to shop for a winter set.
Cooler air lowers tire pressure too. Check your pressures in psi once a month through the fall, and use the numbers printed on the driver's door jamb.
Use the Driving Aids Built Into Every BRZ
The BRZ sends its power to the rear wheels through a TORSEN limited-slip rear differential on all three trims. On slippery leaves or cold, wet pavement, this helps share power between the rear wheels for steady traction out of corners.
Every trim also comes with Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control and a Traction Control System. Leave these systems in their normal setting for daily fall driving, and save track mode for a closed course on a dry day.
The BRZ and tS use a close-ratio 6-speed manual with hill start assist, which holds the car for a moment on a slope while you move your foot from the brake to the gas. The Sport-tech uses a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters and an Adaptive Control system that includes a Snow mode for slick surfaces.
- TORSEN limited-slip rear differential on every 2027 BRZ
- Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control and Traction Control System standard
- Hill start assist on the manual BRZ and tS trims
- Snow mode with the 6-speed automatic on the Sport-tech
Let EyeSight and Smart Lighting Help After Dark
Shorter days mean more driving in low light. EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard on all three 2027 BRZ trims. It includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert.
Fully automatic LED headlights with High-Beam Assist come on every trim. The Sport-tech and tS add steering-responsive LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel to light up curves sooner. These two trims also include Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which help on dark, rainy evenings in busy parking lots.
Foggy mornings are easier to handle as well. All trims have a rear window defogger with a timer and heated, power-adjustable door mirrors.
Stay Warm on Chilly Mornings

The cabin is ready for cooler weather. A dual-zone automatic climate control system with a humidity sensor is standard on every BRZ, which helps keep the windows clear when the air turns damp.
The Sport-tech and tS add heated front seats with two settings, along with leather and Ultrasuede seating surfaces. The Sport-tech also includes MySubaru Connected Services with remote engine start and remote climate control, so you can warm the cabin from your phone before you head out the door.
- Dual-zone automatic climate control with humidity sensor on all trims
- Heated front seats with two settings on the Sport-tech and tS
- Remote engine start and remote climate control on the Sport-tech
- Heated, power-adjustable door mirrors on every trim
Pack Smart for Fall Road Trips
Autumn is a great season for a weekend drive to see the colours change. The BRZ has 178 L of trunk space, with a cargo floor that measures 811 mm long with the rear seats up.
Both rear seatbacks fold flat, which stretches the cargo floor to 1,437 mm. That leaves room for a weekend bag, a camera kit and a jacket for every weather change. A cargo area light and a 12V power outlet in the glove box add small but handy touches for longer trips.
